Hi all. I was running ICS on my phone until a few days ago when I applied the 4.1.2 Jelly Bean upgrade. I've noticed some problems and some annoyances with this update.
1) I can no longer use a wired microphone/headset to make calls. I have a wired headset with built-in mic attached to it, and have been using it to make calls in ICS and, before that, Ginger Bread, just fine. With 4.1.2 JB update what now happens is that if a call comes in, the sound will cut off from my headset and I will have to lift the phone to my head to hear someone talking, even while my headset is still plugged in. The sound will not come out of the ear buds.
Then after I hang up, and push play to resume an audiobook or whatever, the sound will come out of the phone speakers, even though my headset is plugged in, and in order to get the sound to come out of the ear buds again I have to physically unplug them and plug them back in. This is a hugely annoying bug, and it means I can no longer take calls when I have my ear buds in but cannot easily pull my phone out of my pocket to answer a call.
2) In the Messaging app, notifications in the notification shade now just tell me that a message has arrived. In the ICS version, the notification would tell me the name of the person the message came from, and the first line of the message, too. This is a definite downgrade in capability.
3) All of my "desktop" setup was gone. All my app shortcuts, all of my direct dials, my entire folder filled with direct navigation icons, everything was blown away in the update, and I'm having to re-setup the phone again, as if from scratch. This is par for the course, actually, as I think this has happened with every software update I've applied (at least from Ginger Bread to ICS it happened, and now ICS to JB).
4) When I long-press on the desktop now, I can *only* place an application, or display a widget. There's no longer any option to create direct dials, or direct navigations, or anything like that. This is hugely bothersome, especially as the update blew away all the direct dials/direct navigations I had set up already. It seems like the Home Screen functionality we have now is dumber, less capable, than what we could do in Ice Cream Sandwich.
Suggestions: they should add the ability to turn on/off 4G to the notification settings shelf. I live in an area with really crappy Tmobile 4G coverage, and my phone constantly trying to connect to 4G uses up lots of batteries. Switching 4G on and off is something I do commonly enough that it should be like airplane mode or screen rotation and be available in the notification window. This should, at least, be configurable.
