I've had this t-mobile Samsung Galaxy Exhibit II 4G (T679) phone for more than a year and been on t-mobile's $30 prepaid 100min/UL text/UL web plan ever since. I've been happy with it - never a problem with connectivity in my local area (College Station, TX) and would get 4G speeds pretty much all the time with some areas in town where it would go to E.
About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that connectivity was lost - there was a circle with a slash through it on the top of the screen where it normally would have 4 very bright white bars and a 4G sign. I couldn't make or get calls, send or get texts or browse the web. I called t-mobile customer service and they had me go through the usual stuff - wireless settings changes, APN reset, search for providers, try to re-register on the t-mobile network, power down and back on, etc. After going through all the steps, the rep came to the conclusion that it was a faulty sim card and asked me to go the the local t-mobile store and get a new sim card.
When I went to the store, the folks at the store opened up the phone and tried to get the sim card out but it was STUCK - I mean really stuck and just would not move. They even used a pair of pliers and yanked on the sim card but it just would not come out. They concluded that the sim card had "melted" or somehow "glued" itself into the slot and my best bet would be to take it to a cell phone repair shop and see if they could open up the top and get the card out. Erich, the rep at the store, gave me a new sim card and said I should put it in after the repair shop had removed the old sim card and call customer service to get it linked to my device and service would resume.
So the old sim card was removed and I called customer service and they walked me through the process of putting in the new sim card and the guy reassured me that it was now linked to my device and I should be able to connect soon - a couple hours max. Sure enough a couple hours later, I got the E and three white bars but I was still unable to call or text or browse. The green arrow would consistently light up, but the yellow/orange arrow never would. I though maybe it takes a while but the same situation was in effect the next day.
I got on the phone and called customer service. The rep walked me through the usual steps one more time - wireless settings changes, APN reset, search for providers, try to re-register on the t-mobile network, power down and back on, etc. But no luck. This rep said wait for a while and try again and it could be 48hrs before the phone registers and service is resumed. I waited two days but no luck.
So I called customer service again and they double checked that the sim was linked to my device which it was. Then the rep said that there were reports of outages in the area and I should wait for 48hrs and ti would be taken care of.
That was 4 days ago. I still do not have any connectivity - no phone calls, texts or web.
I should mention that my plan is paid and I have a $30 balance in my account. It is really frustrating and I am at a loss.
Could someone please help me out? I would be much obliged. Thank you.
