Why does T-Mobile charge more than retail for a locked device?

$
0
0

In researching my lady's phone I noticed that through T-Mobile she would be paying 427.99 for a LOCKED Nexus 4 phone, OR 349.00 for an UNLOCKED Nexus 4 phone from the Play Store.

It seems that T-Mobile is making us pay full price for a phone +$75 for a lesser functioning device... and I am wondering if their mark-up is really higher than that on other devices, now that they changed their policy to have customers pay full retail for devices?

Is this their ploy to not have customers stay with T-Mobile?  Is this their choice to now have customers get more value out of a service that will not subsidize their phones?  Is this to make customers upgrade less often?  Is this retaliation for not allowing them to be bought out by AT&T?

I cannot really see a benefit for the customer.  If they provide good service in someone's area, yet change their policy to MAKE customers pay full retail +markup for a locked phone, then what is the benefit to the customer, aside from no contract if you can't take your phone with you to another provider anyways (as it is locked)?

Please advise.

I Have a Google Nexxus and a LG Optimus F3. I'm attempting to hook either phone to my TV so I can watch movies downloaded from a movie app. My TV is a sharp aquos 60 inch. But does not have wireless. I purchased a HDMI cord because I was told at Radio shack just purchase the $50 cord and walla!  Nothing either phone. Now Chromecast doesn't support the app so that's not an option. There has to be away to connect either of these new phones to the TV. Help stranded with surgery recovery and want to watch movies. What am I doing wrong? Both TVs are HD.  I know I should have reached out the group first....

Bad customer service where can i voice a concern?

I purchased the LG Optimus L9 P769(t mobile prepaid wireless) from best buy  Jan 2013 for my husband George Williams.  My husband thought the phone was the best for the bucks only paying $200.  Than about a month ago, give or take, he tried to power the phone on and got nothing but a black screen with no response at all.  Because the phone was still under warranty, per the instruction on the best by receipt, I was to call the manufacturer T mobile.   I  contacted T mobile customer service and in formed the rep of the issue my husband was having, the phone was not coming on when power button pushed.  The rep tried to troubleshoot the phone, along with trying to do a reset.  Nothing worked phone still would not power on.  The rep then informed me, I would have to return the phone to t mobile and a replacement phone would be sent to my husband, which was ok.  The rep stated to remove the sims and memory card and any additional personal items that have been added to the phone, and return to the address given me making sure insurance and tracking number was obtain when returning phone and it would take 5 to 7 business day.  All this my husband did, and after taking more than 5 to 7 business day,  we received the replacement phone, minus the battery and back cover.  When I called T mobile and informed them we had received the replacement phone but my battery and back cover was not included, they inform me I should have taken the battery and the back cover off the phone before returning for a replacement phone.   I informed the t mobile rep that this was not made clear to me in the instruction by
the initial t mobile rep I spoke to when getting direction as to what I would need to do in order to get the replacement phone.  If the rep would have included the back cover and the battery with the instruction to remove the sims, memory card and personal additions I would have kept my original battery and back cover and would not have returned with phone.  My understanding of a hull phone is to remove the sims, memory card and any personal additions, because this contains, your personal information, data
etc.   I ask if they could send my original battery and back cover I sent in with the replacement phone, and the rep informed me to hold on while she sent the request for my original battery and back cover to be returned to me, the rep never came back to the phone.  I hung up and called back a rep then told me
they would not be able to send me my original battery and back cover, that would have to go and buy a battery and back cover and they would give me credit on my husband prepaid account,  which I
felt was very bad customer service that we had to be out of money for fell to do correctly, but not totally explain to me what a hull cell phone consist of.  because I thought removing the sim, memory card and personal add on was a hull cell phone.   My husband than asked to speak to a supervisor and a Rosa lee R if that was even her correct name,  and she directed my husband to go to a t mobile store and once he get there give her a call as if she would have the store to issue us a battery and back cover.  Once my husband got to the store, went thought the detail given to him by Rosa lee R, only to be told by the agent at the t mobile store they no longer sale the battery or the back cover because they are obsolete. my husband left
store came home called t mobile customer service again only to get another rep that said she was sending out a request for a investigation, that would take 72 hours , for them to tell t mobile what they would be able to do and they would email me I thought after 72 hours with a update.  72 hours has passed, I called to follow up with a customer service rep who told me there were no new update that once an update is received t mobile would email me. to date 10/20/2013 no email with updates on  this investigation has been received and investigation started or  was requested 10/15/2013.  The customer service we received, especially being that my husband has been a prepaid customer for many years with t mobile,  was very  disappointing and make you feel as if you have invested too many years with this prepaid provider that made the wrong chose when purchasing the t mobile Lg optimus l9 p769.   Or it may just be, customer service doesn't matter if your a PREPAY customer that has been with t mobile for many years.   It is 10/22/201 and we still haven't received a reply or update back from t mobile customer service and it way beyoud the 72 hours and nothing in regards to my order# 202123338 or the investigation ID# 04755106.   I will be filing a complaint with T mobile corporate offices, Washington State attorney general as well as t mobile customer relations dept in Alberquerque NM.

Subscribed to T-Mobile Name ID Service not working.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

I subscribed to the T-Mobile Name ID Service 2 days ago, but the app on the phone has yet to provision.  I know the service is active at the account level just not on the phone.  I open up the App and it displays, and continues to display 2 days later everytime, the intial setup/provisioning screen.  I've obviously tried the obvious rebooting, turning off and turning back on and such.  I don't know what else to do.  I would call, but I don't have the time right now to spend an hour on the phone.

What else do I need to do on my end?  Could it be a possible provisioning issue on the server?

Android With Decent Signal?

My parents currently live in a "good coverage area" (which equates to they are lucky to get one bar of coverage if they Lion King their phone to make a call...) they are currently using less than wonderful models of phones and are ready to upgrade, but would like phones that have a good signal reputation. Their current options are the Galaxy 4, Galaxy Note 3, IPhone 5 and Nexus 5... any opinions from those who live in lower coverage areas as to which phone is best? They use Satellite Internet and Wifi calling is not an option for them to use at home. They get otherwise good coverage after about a mile or two out from their house.

Paid for new phone, sent refurb...

I ordered my phone last week. I paid for and ordered a NEW HTC One. Everything was great until yesterday when i went to t-mobiles order status website and noticed it said refurbished. I paid taxes on the amount of 504 dollars. My monthly payments are 21.00 for 24 months. I did not order a refurbished phone. I called tmobile and they said they dont see refurb. They told me to check the order receipt in the package and if it says refurb then to contact them.

The part that pi**es me off, if it is a refurb then she said they can only send me a new one 3 day delivery. I paid for faster shipping on (what was supposed to be) a new phone. If i get a refurb and they do not overnight me a NEW one then i will just cancel the order. I was on the fence about switching anyway and this would just give me more of a reason to go to verizon...

Unable to send text messages in area that shows coverage?

Found myself unable to successfully send SMS text today while in an area which the map shows as having coverage (east of Fort Wayne, IN on US30 until city limits of Van Wert, OH).

If the nationwide coverage map says I should have working service, why would my text messages not go through?

I have a brand new Alcatel One Touch Fierce Android phone and have the $30/month unlimited text & data plan with 100 minutes.

Thanks for any light anyone can shed on my issue!

Verizon Droid Razr HD on T-Mobile network?

One of my staff members has a Verizon Droid Razr HD and will be travelling to Europe in a few weeks. Based on my own experience recently in France, I would like to explore giving him a TMOUS SIM (if doable) and allow him to use our corporate phone service while he's travelling.

1) Assuming his phone is unlocked, would we be able to put a TMOUS SIM in his Verizon device (it has a SIM slot)?

2) assuming we put the SIM in while he's here in the US, would the phone work on TMOUS network?

Any input on this is appreciated.

Three times now,  have seen the WiFi Calling icon Red.  Each time giving the same error:

'REG09: Missing 911 address' error: Wi-Fi Calling

Each time, when I go to "set it" the address I have placed in there is still there, same address, same place I am using the phone, same network, same SSID, same Access point sitting in the same room.

Why is this not staying set.  The address is correct, accepted by the system, but then later, not set?

Connectivity problems for more than 2 weeks.

I've had this t-mobile Samsung Galaxy Exhibit II 4G (T679) phone for more than a year and been on t-mobile's $30 prepaid 100min/UL text/UL web plan ever since.  I've been happy with it - never a problem with connectivity in my local area (College Station, TX) and would get 4G speeds pretty much all the time with some areas in town where it would go to E.

About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that connectivity was lost - there was a circle with a slash through it on the top of the screen where it normally would have 4 very bright white bars and a 4G sign.  I couldn't make or get calls, send or get texts or browse the web.  I called t-mobile customer service and they had me go through the usual stuff - wireless settings changes, APN reset, search for providers, try to re-register on the t-mobile network, power down and back on, etc.  After going through all the steps, the rep came to the conclusion that it was a faulty sim card and asked me to go the the local t-mobile store and get a new sim card.

When I went to the store, the folks at the store opened up the phone and tried to get the sim card out but it was STUCK - I mean really stuck and just would not move.  They even used a pair of pliers and yanked on the sim card but it just would not come out.  They concluded that the sim card had "melted" or somehow "glued" itself into the slot and my best bet would be to take it to a cell phone repair shop and see if they could open up the top and get the card out.  Erich, the rep at the store, gave me a new sim card and said I should put it in after the repair shop had removed the old sim card and call customer service to get it linked to my device and service would resume.

So the old sim card was removed and I called customer service and they walked me through the process of putting in the new sim card and the guy reassured me that it was now linked to my device and I should be able to connect soon - a couple hours max.  Sure enough a couple hours later, I got the E and three white bars but I was still unable to call or text or browse.  The green arrow would consistently light up, but the yellow/orange arrow never would.  I though maybe it takes a while but the same situation was in effect the next day.

I got on the phone and called customer service.  The rep walked me through the usual steps one more time - wireless settings changes, APN reset, search for providers, try to re-register on the t-mobile network, power down and back on, etc. But no luck.  This rep said wait for a while and try again and it could be 48hrs before the phone registers and service is resumed.  I waited two days but no luck.

So I called customer service again and they double checked that the sim was linked to my device which it was.  Then the rep said that there were reports of outages in the area and I should wait for 48hrs and ti would be taken care of.

That was 4 days ago.  I still do not have any connectivity - no phone calls, texts or web.

I should mention that my plan is paid and I have a $30 balance in my account.  It is really frustrating and I am at a loss.

Could someone please help me out?  I would be much obliged.  Thank you.

'Restricted Access Changed'

No T-Mobile service all weekend - April 4-6, 2014.  I have an Android phone and keep getting the message 'Restricted Access Changed' and there is no signal at all.  Every now and then I get one bar but it quickly goes away and back to no service.  There are 3 people in the house and all have T-Mobile and all have no service but all gets the periodic one bar of signal.  And they have the old regular (dumb) flip phones so it's not my Android that's the problem - even though the Android is the only one giving the restricted message.  I've read somewhere that the 'restricted access changed' message can mean that there is a node error coming from the tower from upgrades being performed to the tower.  But I have no idea if that's true or not.  I did do some shopping this weekend about 20 miles down the road and got a full signal back.  But once back home it's back to no service again - and this is for outside and inside too.  But 3 straight days of no service - that's getting pretty bad.  I've tried to hang in there with T-Mobile but this is making it difficult.  Anyone have any insight into this?  Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Has anyone else encountered problems with their S4 after completing the latest software upgrade? I've only been a T-Mobile customer for a couple of weeks, everything with my device has been fine until this upgrade. The phone has started freezing, running slow, and battery life has taken a major hit.  I'm having to pull the battery at least twice a day to get the phone to resume working.  What are my options as far as getting this fixed? As a new customer of T-Mobile, I'm not sure how to proceed. My previous carrier would've exchanged the phone under warranty.

Nexus 7 mobile internet questions

$

Last month I had a prepaid 3GB/month mobile internet plan on my Nexus 7, everything worked nicely ...but I need the unlimited "simple global" data so I switched over to a simple choice plan. The switch took place a couple of days ago. Now I don't have a data connection anymore. I can't connect to T-mobile because it says my SIM is already activated for another account .... I am using the same SIM as I used with the prepaid account ... will I receive another SIM in the mail for use with the new simple choice plan?  I carried over the "phone number" ( I put that in quotes because a Nexus 7 is not a phone) from the prepaid account to the new post paid simple choice plan ...they said that was no problem ... yet I have no data. Obviously I only care about the data since the Nexus 7 is not a phone.

Next: For some reason I seem trapped into the "phone" plan. I'm paying $50 a month for this phone plan, plus $10/month for 3GB of data for a total of $60/month .... all I want is the mobile data, don't care about voice, don't care about messaging, yet I seem trapped in this phone plan. When I try to change plans it just tells me "I already have the best plan available for your device". Although on the T-mobile website in giant letters is has a "Simple Choice" "Mobile Internet"  $30/month for 3GB.  Any way for me to get on a post paid, $30/month 3GB plan??

Thanks,

NO SIM CARD - NO SERVICE

Hi community, i would appreciate any help you can give.

I'm from Chile (southamerica) and i recently bought a used cell phone on ebay, the seller says that it was a T-Mobile.

I've checked emai on every site i've found for it and it appears clean.

It displays "NO SIM CARD - NO SERVICE" but when i put the sim card it displays "SIM network unlock PIN".

Then i paid for an unlock code on ebay but it remains, even when i put the unlock code and displaying "Network unlock succesful" when i try to make a call it displays "Mobile network not available".

After reboot it displays again "NO SIM CARD - NO SERVICE". Maybe cause the cell was activated in USA and i'm trying to unlock it in other country ?

I'm trying to request an unlock code from T-Mobile but i cann't find email address nor available chat.

Thanks in advance
