Understanding the Issue

You may experience the following issues with the onscreen keyboard:

 

  • The onscreen keyboard is unresponsive on first power up
  • The onscreen keyboard may stop responding or respond slowly

 

 

Help & How to

To troubleshoot the on-screen keyboard being slow or unresponsive, follow these steps:

 

  1. Be sure you are holding the phone steady and upright.
    Note:  If the phone is switching between portrait and landscape mode, it will go unresponsive for several seconds.
  2. Uninstall all third-party keyboard or text-input apps to test the device. Popular apps to remove include:
    • Swype Beta
    • TouchPal
    • Swiftkey
    • Smart Keyboard
    • SlideIt
    • GO Keyboard
    • And others
  3. Clear the app cache and data of the keyboard app. The app may be listed as Swype, Touch Input, or other.
  4. Turn off the device.
  5. Remove the battery.
  6. Insert the battery.
  7. Find your specific phones How To's to wipe the cache partition.
  8. Test the keyboard.
  9. If problems continue, perform a master reset.
  10. Test the keyboard.
  11. If problems continue, download a different keyboard app from the Play Store.
